Serenity and Peace at the Edge of the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is, in the proper sense of the word, an awesome place. It's sheer size, scope, and majesty promotes an attitude of awe, a sense of humility before a greatness that is difficult to conceive. The original oil painting, Serenity, captures this sense of silence and wonder as a young woman, wrapped in a blanket against the chill, sits and meditates before a panorama of layered, colorful cliffs.

Extending out into the horizon, the vista of the Grand Canyon surrounds and embraces the viewer, encouraging an attitude of silence and thought. We need moments of serenity like this; indeed, we need many moments of serenity like this -- time away from the sights and sounds of the "modern" world as we focus on the timeless, lasting, enduring views of nature.
